Although Landes takes aim at all forms of political correctness and controversially addresses issues surrounding multiculturalism, critics argue that there is too much Eurocentrism in his analysis. Landes' thesis centres around the importance of a culture of scientific inquiry and invention spurred by a rivalry between nations and is supported by extensive research. He argues that the key to the wealth of nations is a strong work ethic, property rights, and a fragmented authority. Despite Landes being argumentative about free market principals, the book is well researched and has a great story worth reading.
