This pump is a manual drain submersible pump with plug in and run operation, it is self priming and can not run dry. It can be used on a pool cover with a 10 feet power cord provided but a cable reel might be required for bigger pool covers. The maximum discharge hose length is not specified in the owner's manual but it can be connected to a garden hose with the adapter provided, the hose needs to be 3/4 inch and kept short for the friction. The maximum immersion depth is 23 feet. This pump can handle water temperature up to 95F and has a pulling capacity of just under 3 amps on 110v. Customers' experience with this pump is mostly positive, it efficiently drains hot tubs, pools, and tanks, and is good value for the price. Some customers found it slow at draining with a garden hose but using a wider diameter hose resolved the issue. There were a few issues with the garden hose attachment but customer service was responsive and the issue was resolved.
