When were these produced?
Answer: The ones I have where packaged 01/13 and I have had them for over a year. The seller most likely rolls over his inventory every few months but you should be able to ask them. SOS food rations manufactures these small envelopes of water 4.227 oz. 125 ml and I bet you could call them and ask. The package has a phone # 305-594-9933 -

How will these do in the heat? Can they be left in the car in an emergency kit?
Answer: They will be alright but that will add more of the already present chemical taste. The taste subsides when you're thirsty enough. Keep it at room temperature for optimal shelf life, as with many other food and drink items you can buy. If not exposed directly to sun, I would expect water pouches to still hold up appropriately, but you will shorten the shelf life once you reach the mid 80s (Fahrenheit). I have two in the center console of my car (and I live in Florida). To my knowledge, they haven't lost any liquid. -

What is the freezing situation with this product? Can these be stored in cold climate?
Answer: They will freeze just fine. The foil packaging is thick, and there is enough expansion room in these so they freeze just fine. I have used these 2 winters so far with no issues. -

Are these packets easy to open? Do you need scissors to open them?
Answer: Not easy to open. But I want that. Don't want something that punctures easily. I keep a first aid kit (which includes surgical scissors) in my to-go-pack for emergencies, so not an issue for me. -

What is the expiration date on the pouches?
Answer: Depends on the lot you get. I received mine within a month or so of the manufacturing date & the expiration date is listed as 5 years later - my batch is good till 1/23. -

Answer: Depending on the conditions they are kept in, everything degrades over time. Like all products made for human consumption, it has a manufacturing date & an expiration date. I think its the law. -
