The unit does not come with an external power supply, but it can be powered through a USB cable. It is only necessary to use an external power supply when a parallel port cable or PS/2 port cable is used. The scanner is not capable of scanning QR codes and can only read linear 1D barcodes. The unit works well with Chromebooks and acts like an additional keyboard. Setup may be challenging, and there is no battery indicator to monitor battery levels. The unit is highly recommended for heavy-duty use and for conducting quick scans while walking. Some customers had issues with faulty cradles or clips on the rear of the base, and some units did not work at all. Overall, the scanner is a good option for software that allows keyboard input, with the downside being that the unit does not come with a power cord.
