The Supermicro SYS-E300-9D-8CN8TP is a versatile unit that can work with varying switch types and cards for speed/duplex. It can fit into standard server racks; however, because it is loud, it needs to be mounted away from users. The maximum RAM capacity varies, but it should not exceed 512GB ECC LRDIMM. A purchase does not come with memory modules or an NVMe flash card, requiring separate buying. The NIC cards are Intel, and users can add memory one module at a time. A customer reported noise and fan issues. However, using Noctura fans solved the problem, and the pfSense CE installation process was quick. The Supermicro IPMI software is excellent, giving users access to sensors and fan control, including quieter modes. Overall, it's a good value for replacing older machines.
